Three Needs Brochure
Here is the final concept design approved by the School Board at the February meeting.
Over the past few years the district has been working diligently to maintain and improve the present facilities within the Ellendale School District. Just in the past five years work has been done on the following:
- Installation of a new electric boiler, which replaced an 1967 boiler, and improved energy efficiency
- Insulation and refacing of the HS Gym to also improve energy efficiency
- Installation of front windows and doors in the elementary.
- Updating of the ITV classroom to allow room for a second system, which provided more academic offerings for our students.
- Improved sidewalks on the north, west, and south sides of the school
and much more. Many needs have been addressed but many are left on the list annually. As the list has grown and concerns over aging aspects of the building have persisted the Ellendale School Board believed a comprehensive review of the present facility, and its needs, was needed. This to ensure the proper steps were being taken to address facility needs in a logical and planned manner.
So, in the spring of 2009 the Ellendale School Board requested proposals from firms throughout the area. The goal was to find a firm willing to come into the district and assess the present needs of all facilities now and into the future. This assessment would envelope mechanical, structural, electrical, technological, and educaitonal needs and report back to the planning committee their findings. The district hired Foss Architecture & Interiors to complete this project. Foss Architecture & Interiors is the same firm that was used to complete the high school project in 1996-1997.
What to expect -
October - a detailed assessment of the presnet facilities including ratings of all components and recommendations.
November - a space and occupancy assessment which will assess the present educaitonal & community space needs of the facility and make recommendaitons on improvements.
December - a complete review including both aspects of the project (building assessment & space needs) that will culminate in a list of projects that are recommended by both Foss and the planning team. This final plan will include basic project plans and cost estimates to be used for future planning.
